This post is a small tribute to the first lady who went in space, Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova:
It was the year of Nineteen Sixty Three,
Valentina had a chance to feel zero gravity!
When she was orbiting the earth, forty eight revolutions!
The woman of Vostok-6 from Russia’s Yaroslavl region.
Her dad drove a tractor and her mom worked in a plant,
She joined her mom when needed, regular schooling she can’t.
Second of 3 kids, did studies through correspondence course,
Became the first woman to escape the earth’s g-force!
Following Russia, in 1978, six women chosen as astronaut candidates by NASA: Rhea Seddon, Kathryn Sullivan, Judith Resnik, Sally Ride, Anna Fisher and Shannon Lucid.
As our reach for space opened up, more and more women joined the space club. Do you remember notable ones during our lifetime ? More on that soon…
